As a Lion

Amy “Hannah” McKay will go down as one of the most decorated and versatile players to wear a Lady Lion Softball uniform as a result of her solid play at the plate and in the circle. Throughout her playing career with the Lady Lions from 1994-1998, McKay was a three-time All-Conference performer while earning Tennessee Collegiate Athletic Conference (TCAC) Player of the Year honors in 1996.

During her first season with the Lady Lions in 1994, McKay hit an impressive .351 while earning the Best ERA Award by her team in the process. She continued the trend of success in her 1995-1996 campaign and was voted Most Valuable Player by her teammates after hitting .346 and compiling 44 hits and 27 RBI while striking out 89 batters and maintaining a 3.0 ERA in the circle.

During her final season with the Lady Lions, McKay found success once again at the plate, hitting .333 while leading the team in doubles and runs scored (31).

“Amy was an incredible leader for our team and an entertaining player to watch,” said Terry Weeks, head coach for the Lady Lion softball program during McKay’s playing career. “If she didn’t beat you with her arm in the circle, she would beat you with her power at the plate. She was always a joy to coach.”

After Graduation

Following her graduation from Freed-Hardeman, McKay began her teaching career at Bolton High School, where she taught nine years while also serving as the Assistant Softball Coach for two years. She transferred to Arlington High School in 2006, where she currently serves as an 11th grade English teacher and Assistant Softball Coach. Throughout her coaching career, McKay has led her teams to three State Tournament appearances.

Amy is married to Jason McKay and they have four children:  Beau, Jonah, Carter and Isabelle. They reside in Arlington, Tenn. and are active members of the Great Oaks Church of Christ in Memphis, Tenn.
