Kyle Teichmann

Inducted 2019

Men's Basketball

Kyle Teichman received a well-deserved unanimous vote, as he is the all-time leading scorer for men’s basketball at Freed-Hardeman with 2,272 points.

Teichmann played four years at FHU under Jason Shelton, and along with being the program's all-time leading scorer, Teichmann is the career leader in field goals made and attempted at 872 for 1,600 for his career, shooting at a 54 percent clip. He is third in all-time free throws made and attempted shooting 467 for 643 from the charity stripe at a 72 percent clip. Teichmann also left FHU as the fourth leading all-time rebounder with 927 boards during his time at FHU.

Over his four-year career at FHU, the all-time leading scorer accumulated several accolades for his play on the court. Teichmann was a three-time NAIA All-American, as he was voted to the Third Team in 2011, Second Team in 2012, and First Team in 2014 as a senior. Teichmann also claimed TransSouth Athletic Conference Freshman of The Year honors in 2009-2010, and TSAC Player of The Year in 2011-2012.

“(Kyle) was one of the most skilled players I had the opportunity to coach at any level,” Teichmann’s coach Jason Shelton said. “His basketball IQ is off the charts, and he made everybody he played with better. Doing that as a post player is not the norm.”

The All-American was a member of two FHU men’s basketball teams that made a run to the NAIA National Tournament, including the 2013-2014 season, where the Lions posted a 29-6 record, and a run to the National Quarterfinal, which is the furthest any FHU men’s basketball team has gone in the National Tournament to date.

“Receiving the call from Coach (Mike) McCutchen was a special moment,” Teichmann said. “I am extremely grateful and excited to be inducted into the FHU Hall of Fame. I want to specifically thank my family, coaches and teammates, because without them, this would not be possible.”

He is currently the head boys’ basketball coach at Jackson Christian School, starting his first season this year, and he worked alongside former teammate Jonathan Milewski in the first ever Freed-Hardeman Guard and Post Camp this summer.
