Micheal Gaines enrolled at Freed-Hardeman University in the fall of 1993, after graduating from Boyd Buchanan Christian School where he scored over 2,500 career points on his way to three-time All-State honors.

The 6-foot-4 power forward made an immediate impact on the Lion basketball team, averaging 19.1 points and 10.5 rebounds his freshman year. Throughout his career, Gaines racked up 2,098 points, placing him second on the all-time FHU scoring list. He also pulled down 1,023 career rebounds, a record that is yet to be broken.

Gaines was a four-time TranSouth All-Conference selection and was twice named an NAIA All-American, in 1994 and 1998. During the 1997-1998 season, Gaines helped lead his team to a NAIA National Tournament appearance, finishing 24-11 with a final national ranking of 18th.

Micheal Gaines received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management from Freed-Hardeman University in 1998.
