As a Lion

Renata Pedreira and Karina Souza both came to Freed-Hardeman together in the fall of 2004 to be part of the Lady Lion volleyball team.  With their arrivals, the success of the program instantly changed.

Pedreira made her presence known right away, setting a single-season kills record of 670 in her first year.  She was the TranSouth Conference Player of the Year as a junior, a three-time first-team all-conference selection, and FHU’s first NAIA Volleyball All-American with her selection to the third team in 2005.  In addition to her success on the floor, she was also a success in the classroom as a two-time NAIA

The native of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, still holds the single season kills record as well as the No. 2 spot with 601 kills in her senior season.  Pedreira also holds the second, third, and fourth spots on the single-season aces list, and is the career aces leader with 159.  She ranks second in career kills (1867), fifth in career digs (900) and fourth in career blocks (302) despite playing only three seasons.

After Graduation

Pedreira graduated from FHU with a degree in finance and went on to earn an MBA in Accounting from Texas Tech while obtaining her CPA license.  At the time of her induction, she resided in Birmingham, Ala., with her husband, Almir Smajic, a former Lion basketball player.
