Ricardo Ferreira joined the Freed-Hardeman University Lion tennis team in 1995, playing under Coach Ken Miller. Ferreira has been called one of the most esteemed tennis players in FHU school history.

Ferreira, a three-time All-American selection, played No.1 on the 1994-1995 Conference Championship team that finished with a 17-7 overall record and No. 18 ranking, as well as an appearance at the NAIA National Tournament.
During the 1995-1996 season, Ferreira helped lead his team to a 19-2 overall record and a No. 11 final NAIA ranking as a TranSouth All-Conference and All-Tournament performer. He and his partner, Federico Contreras, also won the Rolex National Small Colleges Doubles Championship.

In 1996-1997 Ferreira played No. 2 for the Lions and was ranked No. 40 nationally. He and Contreras received a No. 5 national doubles ranking and won the Rolex Regional Championship, as well as the NAIA Doubles National Championship.

During the 1997-1998 season, Ferreira helped lead his team to a 22-0 record and No. 1 ranking heading into the national tournament. Ferreira again was part of a Regional Rolex doubles title and finished the season with a 19-3 singles record and 17-2 doubles record.

After Graduation
 
After graduating from Freed-Hardeman University in 1998 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Fashion and Interiors, Ricardo Ferreira returned to Sao Paulo, Brazil where he began working with a family insurance company.
