Women's Basketball

In her three years with the Lady Lions basketball team, Stacy Montgomery Springer scored 1,168 points. Springer’s best season came in 1994-95 when she took First Team All-Conference honors in the former Tennessee Collegiate Athletic Conference, and averaged 20.8 points per game, 4.3 assists per game and shot 40 percent from beyond the arc.

“Stacy was one of the best guards that I have ever coached at FHU,” Neal said. “She was a great team player and leader. She was a catalyst in helping turn the Lady Lion program into a perennial national contender.”

Springer notched her career-high 40 points against the Ozarks in 1994, as she is one of three Lady Lions to score 40 or more points in a game. She was a vital piece in the foundation of the Lady Lions basketball program, which is now one of the most prestigious NAIA Division I programs in the country. Springer was the team’s leading scorer and the leading scorer in the conference in the Lady Lions first ever 20-win season.

After leaving Freed-Hardeman, Springer enrolled at Northeast Mississippi Community College, where she earned her Associates Degree in Applied Science in Dental Hygiene in 1999. During her 20-year hygiene career, Springer established and coached both boys’ and girls’ youth basketball teams. Along with her husband Mark, she has coached multiple nationally-ranked AAU and Exposure basketball teams. In 2018, she assisted her husband in directing Columbia Academy’s youth basketball league, and the couple continues to coach their 8-year-old son, Knox.

“It’s such an honor to be selected as one of the newest Hall of Fame members for Freed-Hardeman,” Springer said. “Upon receiving the news, my mind has been flooded with memories of my days as a Lady Lion. I look forward to reflecting on those days more over the next couple of months as I prepare to make the trek back to the place where it all began.

“Without the opportunities given to me by my coaches, the university, and the support of my teammates and my family, this would not be possible. I can’t wait to see, talk to, hug and thank all of those that made this a reality.”
