FHU bounces back with win over Faulkner

GULF SHORES, Ala. — After suffering their first loss of the season, the No. 5 Lady Lions of Freed-Hardeman University answered with a shutout win over the Faulkner (Ala.) University Eagles. Brittany Adair struck out 12 while the hitters behind her tallied four runs in the 4-0 victory.

Kennedy Harris-Bennett drew a walk to start the Lady Lions' (4-1) half of the first inning before swiping second base. A Catherine Crabb single moved Harris-Bennett to third before Sophie Dunavant drove in Harris-Bennett with a single, moving Crabb to third. The sting of a double play was slightly eased as Crabb was able to score the second run of the inning to give the Lady Lions a 2-0 lead after one complete inning.

FHU stayed silent until the bottom of the third inning when Harris-Bennett picked up her signature three-bagger: drawing a walk off of the Faulkner (3-2) starter before stealing both second and third. Dunavant drove in her teammate for the second time with a single up the middle to put the Lady Lions ahead 3-0.

After scoring twice, Harris-Bennett used her bat to drive in Madelyn Crabb - who began the bottom of the fifth inning with a conventional triple - with a single to end the scoring with a 4-0 victory.

Brittany Adair (3-0) went the distance in the circle, striking out 12 while allowing just two hits and issuing as many walks.

Sophie Dunanvat tallied a pair of base hits while driving a run on each of those.
