HENDERSON, Tenn. — The hosting (RV) Freed-Hardeman University Lady Lions watched the (RV) University of the Cumberlands (Ky.) sink 25 out of their attempted 28 free throws in Saturday's Mid-South Conference matchup. Those 28 points were the difference-maker as the Lady Lions fell to the Patriots 78-59.

It was a hot start for the Lady Lions (16-7, 10-7 MSC) after Madisyn Baugher netted back-to-back 3-pointers and a layup to help the Lady Lions to an 8-2 lead. The UC Patriots would chip away with three jumpers in the key before going on a 7-0 run to knot the game 17-17. KJ White hit a triple with eight seconds remaining to put the Lady Lions on top after the first quarter 20-17.

Three layups for the Patriots (18-5, 12-5 MSC) flipped the script to give Cumberlands the lead before going 6-6 from the charity stripe. From there, twins Kassie and Kaylee Monday would combine for 11 unanswered points before White's layup broke the Lady Lions' dry spell. A set of UC jumpers ended the first half with the Lady Lions trailing 15 at 44-29.

The Lady Lions would begin to chip away at the Patriot lead, bucketing 3-pointers from Rachel Satterly and Raegan Purvine. The UC Patriots did not record a made basket from the field in the final 5:27 of the third frame. They did; however, hit seven free throws to end the quarter with a 60-48 lead.

Freed-Hardeman would not fade quietly, with Satterly hitting a triple before Elli Chumley's free throws drew the Lady Lions within 10 points. Another 10-0 run by the Cumberlands would put out any hope of a comeback by the Lady Lions, ending the game with a 78-59 final.

Four Lady Lions ended the contest in double figures, with KJ White leading the charge with 14 points, followed by Raegan Purvine's 12-point effort. Madisyn Baugher's 11 points were chased by Rachel Satterly's 10-point afternoon. Kelsey Bender and Elli Chumley matched each other with a team-high six rebounds.
