MONTGOMERY, Ala. — The Freed-Hardeman men's basketball team fought off a valiant comeback effort from the Middle Georgia State Univerity Knights to close out the Jimmy Faulkner Classic held in Faulkner (Ala.) University's Tine Davis Gymnasium. FHU picked up the victory 95-87 in the high-scoring affair.

The Lions (1-1) utilized a team effort to open the scoring after Geraldo Lane swiped the ball from the MGA guard before sending the outlet pass to JaQuan Lax, who tossed it to Hunter Scurlock who laid it in to put FHU on the board. The MGA Knights kept things close in the opening 10 minutes, not allowing FHU to lead by more than five. FHU started getting hot from long range with J.J. Wheat and Peyton Law draining back-to-back triples. Lane would get in on the action by draining the 3-pointer to help push the Lions to a 13-point halftime lead over the Knights 44-31.

The MGA Knights (3-1) started picking up the pace in the second act, bucketing 17 points in just five minutes to the Lions' five. What began as a 72-58 lead for the Lions saw the lead dwindle down to just two at 77-75 with 4:26 left. After getting into the double-bonus early, it was up to the FHU free-throw shooting to nail down the victory. The Lions went 9-11 from the charity stripe in the final five minutes to exit Alabama with the 95-87 win.

Geraldo Lane netted a career-high 21 points in the victory, with Hunter Scurlock tallying 15. Also in double-digits were Brandon Thomas with 15 and Peyton Law with 14. Thomas was two rebounds shy of the double-double, pulling down a team-high eight, while JaQuan Lax dished out nine assists.
