PIKEVILLE, Ky. — The Freed-Hardeman University Lady Lions were 10-28 from the floor Saturday against the (RV) University of Pikeville (Ky.) Bears. To their credit, the home-standing Bears connected for nine 3-pointers to defeat the Lady Lions 63-44.

The Lady Lions (14-6, 9-6 MSC) saw the Pikeville Bears hit a 3-pointer on the first shot of the game, one of five long balls from the bears in the quarter. Madisyn Baugher kept the Lady Lions in the game, bucketing seven points including helping FHU take a 9-8 lead with 5:49 left. UPIKE would then jump ahead with a 15-2 run to close the opening quarter with the Bears ahead 23-11.

Neither the Bears (16-4, 11-3 MSC) nor the Lady Lions shot the ball well in the second frame both teams connecting for just three field goals. FHU spent the quarter going 0-12 until KJ White's layup with 21 seconds remaining broke the skid. Pikeville did not fare much better, going 2-13 from the floor to end the first half leading 29-15.

Rachel Satterly began to warm up the net in the third quarter, starting the scoring for FHU with a layup and a foul to spark a 7-0 run to pull within nine points of the Bears. It was the free-throw line that helped FHU the most in the quarter, as Satterly and Kelsey Bender connected to go 7-7 from the charity stripe. While the Lady Lions chipped away with free throws, the Bears continued to utilize the long ball, ending the quarter with a triple to move into the final frame leading 45-30.

The Lady Lions saw Raegan Purvine join Baugher with 3-pointers to close the gap to an 11-point differential, but the Bears struck back with a 10-0 run to keep FHU at bay to finalize the score at 63-44.

The Lady Lions forced 12 turnovers, one more than the Bears forced; however, Pikeville converted their 11 forced turnovers to 15 points, while the Lady Lions bucketed four points off of turnovers.

Rachel Satterly led FHU's offense, tallying 13 points including a 5-5 run at the free-throw line. Madisyn Baugher chased with 10 points and four rebounds.
