As a Lion
Fernanda Ferreira came to FHU from Belo Horizonte, Brazil in 2008. She had one of the best careers as a part of the Lady Lions volleyball program, and her official enshrinement into the FHU Athletics Hall of Fame cements her into the history of the sport at Freed-Hardeman. From 2008 to 2013, Ferreira was one of the most fearsome hitters, not only in the TranSouth Conference but the country.
She was named the TranSouth Conference Freshman of the Year and an AVCA All-American in 2008. In 2010, Fernanda was named to the All-Conference team, TranSouth Conference Tournament MVP, and All-America Honorable Mention. She continued her success by being named to All-Conference First Team and All-America Third Team in 2011. She was named a Third-Team All-American in 2011 and was the TranSouth Conference Player of the Year, an AVCA All-American, and Third-Team All-American in 2012.
According to Coach Todd Humphry, "The impact she made both the volleyball program and Freed-Hardeman is hard to measure. She fully embraced the opportunity to attend FHU, and we are better for having her here during her time as a player and manager while she finished her education.
In her career, she totaled 1,644 kills at a 30-percent attack rate, and she led the TranSouth in kills (484) and kills per set (4.6) her senior year.
Ferreira stated, "I want to specifically thank all the girls, Coach Humphry, and the assistants because, without them, this would not be possible. They stepped on the court with me each and every game. I'm thankful for the years I was able to wear a Lady Lions uniform. I am proud to be a part of it and continue to cherish the memories we made together. I am grateful to God and for my family, who, though they were far away, were always by my side supporting me."
Fernanda earned her BBA in Marketing and Management with a minor in Spanish in 2013 and completed her MBA in 2014. She is currently living in Contagem, Brazil, where she is employed as an administrator at a lighting and energy company. Fernanda is seeking her MBA in Corporate Financing and Auditing.
