Lions take game one against Wildcats

HENDERSON, Tenn. — Opening up the series against the Bethel (Tenn.) University Wildcats, the (RV) Freed-Hardeman University Lions take game one by a 7-1. The Lions outhit the Wildcats nine hits to six hits.

Fast forwarding to the bottom of the third inning, the Freed-Hardeman University Lions (26-15, 13-9 MSC) bats got rolling. Camden Madding reaches first base on an error by the Wildcat second basemen. Mason Libla adds two runs to the run column for the Lions by hitting a two-run home run. However, the Lions keep adding on more runs. William Kelley gets on with a triple. Christian Presley brings home William Kelley with a sacrifice fly and makes the score 3-0 Lions. Will McCall gets on by a tough walk and steals second base. Sean Rooney brings home Will McCall, by a single to score 4-0.

During the top of the seventh inning, the Wildcats (12-27, 8-14 MSC) added on one run to make the score 4-1. The Lions answered the call quickly in the bottom of the seventh inning. Mason Libla gets things rolling with a single through the left side of the infield. William Kelley singles as well to get runners to first and second base. With Adam Smithson up at the plate, he plates home two on a single to make the score 6-1 in favor of the Lions. The Lions added more onto the bottom of the eighth inning. Baron Ratliff walks and steals second base. Camden Madding singles and brings home Baron Ratliff to add on for the Lions to make the score 7-1.

Alex Huey (6-4) picks up the win on the mound for the Lions. Huey pitched six innings allowing three hits, no runs, and striking out three batters. Houston High, the Volunteer State Community College transfer, picks up his first career collegiate save and first save as a Lion. Houston High pitched three innings allowing three hits with one walk and striking out two batters.

The Lions will be back in action tomorrow, Saturday, April 15, as they will take on Bethel University Wildcats in a doubleheader. The first game begins at 12:00. The Five Wells Field ribbon cutting is set to take place at 11:15.
