Lions tennis smashes Owls

COLUMBUS, Miss. — After finishing their season-opening match without losing a single game, the Freed-Hardeman University Lions continued their success by knocking out the Mississippi University for Women 9-0.

With the hosting Owls (0-4) members of NCAA Division III, the Lions competed for a total of nine team points with an eight-game pro set for the doubles matches. The NAIA utilizes a seven-point team dual match with a six-game doubles set.

Freed-Hardeman (2-0) took care of business in the doubles match, with Aleksa Pesic and Theo Devals opening the FHU scoring with an 8-0 win. Pesic would go on to win his No. 3 singles match 6-1, 6-0 while Devals did not lose a game on the day after his No. 4 match 6-0, 6-0.

Merlin Bolema and Maxime Guyon bested their counterparts before Bolema hit the singles No. 1 court where he took the victory 6-1, 6-0. Nolan Laduree and Caden Arnold rounded off the perfect doubles day for the Lions, winning 8-0. Both Laduree and Arnold swept through the competition with 6-0, 6-0 wins.

Braden Young's turn in the No. 6 singles match ended in victory after a 6-1, 6-0 match.

Up Next

FHU travels to New Albany, Mississippi where they will return to the NAIA's scoring format against the Toppers of Blue Mountain Christian (Miss.) University. The meeting is set to get started on Tuesday, February 28, at 3:00 p.m.
