Alverson Leads FHU Cross Country In Twilight Classic

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Freed-Hardeman Cross Country teams made the short trip this weekend to Memphis, Tenn. to compete in the Brooks Memphis Twilight Classic, an event where Tyler Alverson posted another solid finish among several NCAA schools.

Alverson finished 11th overall among 172 runners in the four-mile race with a time of 20:43. His finish in the 2018 Brooks Memphis Twilight Classic was one place better than his finish last season, as he finished 12th in last year's event.

The FHU men's team placed 16th out of 19 schools in the event while Alverson was the top NAIA runner in the field just behind runners from NCAA Central Arkansas, Missouri, UT Martin and Ole Miss.

Tristan Ray and Blaine McKinney rounded out the top three for the Lions, as Ray finished with a time of 23:08 while Elliott followed close behind with a time of 23:45.

Meanwhile on the women's side, the Lady Lions finished in 19th out of 21 schools in the 5K event, led by Brooke Simpson who finished with a time of 23:32. Holly Bowman and Jade Ford rounded out the top three for FHU, as Bowman finished with a time of 24:21 while Ford followed close behind with a time of 26:10.

UP NEXT: The FHU Cross Country teams are back in action Saturday, September 22nd, as they host the Freed-Speed Open at the Freed-Hardeman Cross Country course in Henderson, Tenn.
