Second half goals too much for Lady Lions

HENDERSON, Tenn. — It took all of the opening 45 minutes between Freed-Hardeman and Shawnee State (Ohio) University to find the net, but both the Lady Lions and the Bears tallied goals in the second half. In the end, the Lady Lions were unable to answer the Bears who left Henderson after a 3-1 final.

Freed-Hardeman (4-6-1, 0-5-1 MSC) sent four shots toward the Shawnee State net in the first half, two of which were on target, but kept out by the SSU keeper. The Bears attempted three shots in the first frame, unable to connect for a shot on goal.

Beginning the second half with a stronger offensive burst, Shawnee State (9-4-0, 3-3-0 MSC) put the first goal on the board when Madison Humble took a centering pass before dribbling past two FHU defenders. The 55:09 goal was amplified in the 57th minute when Humble sent a shot from the top corner of the box that twisted left to right before touching nylon to put SSU ahead 2-0.

Pia Grosse answered shortly thereafter, then Zoe Stom took a rebounded shot and sent a pass to her left where Grosse tapped in the Lady Lions' first goal at 61:41. Hopes for a comeback were dashed in the 83rd minute when a free kick from SSU found its way to the back of FHU's net to cement the final tally at 3-1.

In goal, Brooke Latham kept out four saves in the losing effort.
