Lady Lions honor two, fall in seven

HENDERSON, Tenn. — Freed-Hardeman University's women's tennis team celebrated their two outgoing seniors: Julianna Alves and Delfina Rodrigez-Molina in a brief ceremony before hosting the (RV) Cumberland (Tenn.) University Phoenix. Senior Day celebrations were dampened with the Phoenix taking every point in a 7-0 final.

With Alves joining Michelle Lancaster on the doubles No. 1 Court, the Lady Lions (3-17, 1-6 MSC) dropped the first doubles match 6-1. The other two doubles matches followed suit with Morgan Brown and Elise Kruzan falling 6-1 before Hannah Pearce and Deflina Rodriguez-Molina dropped their match 6-1.

Lancaster met with Cumberland's (8-12, 4-2 MSC) No. 30 Jessica Hernandez where the latter claimed victory 6-4, 6-4. The No. 2 Court featured Rodrigez-Molina who took the first set to an extra game, but ultimately fell 7-5, 6-2. Kruzan dropped her match 6-2, 6-0, while Morgan Brown forced an extra game in the first set before falling 7-5, 6-2. Completing the day's competition was Pearce who fell 6-3, 6-2.

With three matches remaining before the Mid-South Conference tournament, FHU will visit Thomas More (Ky.) University on Friday, April 7, before taking on the Shawnee State (Ohio) University Bears on Saturday, April 8.
