Lady Lion tennis tames Bears

PORTSMOUTH, Ohio — Freed-Hardeman University's women's tennis team picked up a Mid-South Conference win by defeating the Shawnee State (Ohio) University Bears 6-1.

The Lady Lions (4-8, 2-7 MSC) earned the doubles point, winning all three matches beginning with Julianna Alves and Michelle Lancaster tallying a 6-1 win. On the No. 3 court, Hannah Pearce and Delfina Rodriguez-Molina took care of business 6-2, while Morgan Brown and Elize Kruzan won their tight match 7-5.

Picking up the doubles point, the Lady Lions kept the momentum against the Bears (1-7, 0-5 MSC) with Lancaster winning the No. 1 court match 6-0, 6-4. Alves won her match 6-4, 6-3, while Rodrigez-Molina clinched the dual victory with a pair of 6-3 set wins. The lone Bear point came in a thriller where Kruzan fell 6-7, 2-6, 11-9 before Brown bounced back with a 6-3, 6-2 win. Pearce put a bow on the victory with a 7-5, 6-4 win.

The Lady Lions will wrap up the regular season with a trip to McKenzie, Tennessee, where they will fact the Bethel (Tenn.) University Lady Wildcats on April 11, beginning at 3:00 p.m.
