WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. — Twice the Freed-Hardeman University Lady Lions held a 22-20 lead over the hosting University of the Cumberlands (Ky.) Patriots. Twice those same Patriots overtook the lead before claiming victory 3-0 (25-23, 25-23, 25-18).

The first set showed the fireworks early with FHU (15-14,  4-10 MSC) and Cumberlands drawing even 12 different times. The largest lead of the set came with UC leading 9-5 before Kacey Donegan and Avery Harris teamed up to tally a pair of kills, followed by back-to-back service aces from Harris. After a UC timeout, the Patriots would rack up four of the last six points to claim victory 25-23.

FHU and Cumberlands (21-8, 8-4 MSC) would trade scoring streaks in the second set, with an Adleigh Mayes service ace giving the Lady Lions their best lead of the set at 16-11. Cumberlands would battle back in the frame before a service ace from Allie Humphry gave the girls in maroon a 22-16 lead to force UC's second timeout of the set. Out of the break, the Lady Lions committed five attack errors, unraveling to allow the Patriots to claim the set victory 25-23.

The Patriots applied pressure to the Lady Lions in the third set, tallying a match-high 18 kills at .471 percent to win the set and match.

FHU was led by Kacey Donegan's double-double with 11 kills and a team-high 16 digs. Allie Humphry led her squad in both assists with 16 and service aces with three.
