Lady Lion softball sees 10 honored as All-Conference

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — As the No. 21 Freed-Hardeman University Lady Lions make their way to Bowling Green for the Mid-South Conference Tournament, 10 Lady Lions were selected as All-Conference players. FHU had five make the first team, three on the second team, and two players were honorably mentioned. With a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage with 260 putouts, Sophie Dunavant was awarded with the Gold Glove.
Making the All-MSC First Team for the Lady Lions was Brittany Adair as a pitcher, Sophie Dunavant as a catcher, Kennedy Harris-Bennett and Karli Quillin as outfielders, and Chloe Winters as a pitcher. Adair continues to show her dominance in the circle, striking out 164 batters while breaking the Lady Lion record for most career shutouts. Dunavant broke a record of her own by placing her name atop the FHU career RBI category, leading the Lady Lions in 2023 with 32. Harris-Bennett was deadly on the bases, swiping 34 bases while breaking FHU's career home run record in a seven-home run campaign. As a freshman, Quillin boasts a team-high 45 base hits in 116 trips, leaving her with a .388 average. Winters finished her regular season with an 11-3 record while maintaining a 1.21 ERA in 92 2/3 innings of work.
Selected to the second team were Catherine Crabb, Madelyn Crabb, and Myleah Hardy. C. Crabb held a .300 average while tallying 10 doubles. M. Crabb was a tough out with a .400 OBS, collecting 14 hits and driving in five runs. Hardy provided the Lady Lions with much-needed power, smashing a team-high eight home runs while amassing 18 extra-base hits.
Honorably mentioned as All-MSC were Cassie Hayes and Anna Kate Norton. Hayes, the recipient of FHU's "Best Teammate" award, drove in 17 timely runs while drawing 11 walks. Norton provided run-scoring opportunities by hitting six doubles and a pair of triples.
The Lady Lions will play the winner of Shawnee State (Ohio) University and Thomas More (Ky.) University tomorrow, May 4, at 1:30 p.m.
